Winter 2024-2025

Registration is required to participate in Travel Tryouts. Travel is only available for children who live in Mount Laurel. Proof of Residency is required by the travel leagues.

Ages

This registration is for our intramural leagues and travel tryouts.

Intramural is for grades 3 and up. Travel begins at grade 4 and continues through the 8th grade season.

When

Our winter intramural seasons begin the first week of December and play to the winter break for schools. We pick back up during the first week of January and typically wrap up our seasons with playoffs that last into the first week of March.

TRAVEL: Travel is a higher level of commitment. All travel players are expected to attend all practices and games. The season begins in October with tryouts and typically ends at the end of February/Early March.

Where

Where are practices and games typically held?

All practices are held in Mount Laurel schools. Travel games can be located throughout the state. Intramural games are typically within the Mount Laurel Schools except for some of our Junior High and High School programs that can play in different local townships.

Practices

Practices are typically after school. Travel teams practice at least twice a week. Intramural practices at least once a week.

Extra Costs

What costs beyond registration fees should be expected?

Travel parents will have to cover additional costs for uniforms, tournaments (coach/team discretion) and additional refereed games within their respective leagues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions:

1 - Can my 3rd grader try out for a 4th grade travel team?

We do not have kids play up from 3rd grade into travel for a couple of reasons. 1. We want to give the 4th grade kids an opportunity to play and get accustomed to travel, which as you can surmise, is much different from our rec leagues. 2. Rising third grades have referees for every game this season. The kids get used to a number of things including referees, a practice cadence and a lot more exposure to a real basketball game. Up until now, we classify the kids as instructional because they typically only play in coach supervised games and the game speed is much different.

2 - What is my grade specific schedule?

In general, we get gyms and make the schedule up based on the number of teams in a certain grade. These vary through the years, but typically third grade is always our most popular grade. Since we need adjustable basket heights for our younger grades specific gyms are used to accommodate them. Once we get our counts on teams and determine which gyms are available which days of the week and time slots, we make a matrix to accommodate all teams for a minimum of 2 slots each week. Each grade is a league of its own and has a commissioner. Once they receive the matrix, they assign specific teams. Therefore, we don’t develop a specific grade level schedule until we have a better understanding of the number of teams at each grade.

3 - How long is the season?

Typically travel tryouts start the first week of October and wrap up with team announcements by the end of October. Travel teams begin practicing at the beginning of November. Intramural and Instructional start the last week of November and play until Christmas. The season pauses when the schools are closed and resumes once the schools open back up. The season ends during the first or second weekend in March. Specific dates will be communicated shortly for travel tryouts and season statt and end dates.

4 - what happens if I am in high school and tryout for the School team?

We encourage everyone to register. If you participate in high school tryouts and make the team, we will wish you a huge Congratulations and provide a full refund of your registration fee!

5 - Can I get a refund?

Refund Policy

If your child attends a tryout/evaluation – assessed a $10 fee.

If your child tries out for a travel team and does not make one, you can request a refund if your child does not want to play on an intramural team. However, you will be assessed a $45 administrative fee. If your child makes a travel team and your child does not want to play on that particular team, no refund will be issued.

For all other players, our refund policy is such that you can request a full refund before October 31st for Winter.  After Oct 31st, all leagues and team counts will be formed, insurance paid for everyone and uniforms ordered and we must assess a $45 per player fee to cover all charges related to your child that we incur. Once teams are formed no refunds will be issued. Email info@mtlaurelbasketball.org to request a refund.

High School Varsity, JV, and Freshman Refund Policy

Anyone who tries out for, and makes a High School Varsity, JV, or Freshman team will receive a full refund if they have already registered for a Mount Laurel Basketball Intramural league. Requests for refunds should be sent to info@mtlaurelbasketball.org

6 - Do I really need to attend Evaluations if I’m only playing recreational?

Yes. We encourage everyone to attend evaluations from grades 3 and up so that we can keep the teams competitively balanced based on skill level.

7 - I don’t think my child is as skilled as others, will they get fair playing time?

Yes, we have playing time rules. While our coaches in recreational do try to win games they all understand that the kids are there for fun. They understand that sitting on the bench for a long period of time isn’t fun. So - they are provided with guidance based on the number of kids on the team.
